Okay, so I went there and the talks were pretty interesting and woaah, people actually DO blog seriously here!
Blogout was organized by The Digital Movement and as usual for any events… I got there early.
Just in case I’d get lost, you know. I went to the free one on the 7th March and it was located at 8Q SAM. See, there’s actually ANOTHER Singapore Arts Museum and you got to figure out which one it was. Thankfully they DID say 8Q cause the other one is further behind and quite a walk from it too.
Woooh, okay so with the obvious sign, I totally found it.
Across of it was the church and at the end of the day, the church bells were ringing for mass. Heh. Kinda cool in an architectural sense, as in. Art museum across, church there, old hotel on the other side, etc etc. It’s such a myriad of places in this old district and all, kinda historical too with the mix of old and refurbished buildings.
Soooooo, I registered or rather stuffed my card into the box and got a goodie bag. Mind you inside the goodie bag was a $20 Samsung voucher!! I have no idea what I can actually buy though. Oh and I bought the Blogout09 t-shirt for $10 just for kicks since I like t-shirts anywho.
The first thing I saw there. Oh yesss, GH: World Tour. If anyone’s wondering. I was the one playing the guitars in the morning with the rest.
Joe Augustin was the MC for the day and he was pretty entertaining. Meanwhile, we were told we could send questions and all to the Floating Room by sending them via sms or twitter and to tag our twitters with #blogout09. It was so technology cool. Too bad I didn’t bring my eeepc along though because I figured naaah. I DID get all twitter crazy or sms crazy to the website though instead.
This guy is Lester and if you noticed his WordPress t-shirt… HE IS ONE OF THE TOP DEVELOPERS OF PLUGINS THERE! Oh freaking gasp. He was giving a pro-Wordpress talk and okay if you noticed THIS blog, it’s pretty much run on WordPress anywho. Before that was Preetnam Rai‘s talk about a travelling blog and how he went around in other countries, knowing people and stuff.
It was pretty educational and that, really… Sometimes it’s just worth to be nice and polite and people would help you around! Veeeery useful talk anywho on the traveling bits, like trying to find out what’s going to happen in the country you’re visiting or area by checking the local bloggers there in case of anything. Having meetups and etc.
Soon after, it was lunch. Oh heck yes. I didn’t know it was going to be catered, so WOOT to me! I mean, yeah the programme said lunch but I figured maybe we had to go out and buy stuff or something.
I twittered that eating chicken wings with plastic utensils was an art since it was pretty difficult anywho. In any case, the food was pretty yummy and I’ll always like sweet and sour fish.
Seriously.
Free food.
As I said, GH was pretty popular. Oh you can see Yongfook in the back there. He’s one of the speakers of how you can make money with your blog besides ads!
This is Claudia, the one who helped organize the whole thing. She seemed pretty nervous actually but woah, her talk really taught me that it takes a lot of work if you want your blog to be out THERE and also that there are plenty of blogging type groups around here and other tools to increase traffic or rather, which tool is most suited best for your kind of blogging (eg. Posterous/Twitter/Tumblr/WordPress/etc etc).
After her talk and Howie of TDM’s talk about a review, we had tea! YAY! I kinda like the tapioca with coconut sauce and the mint yam roll with chilli. They had eclairs or was it cream puffs but I didn’t care for those.
Half the people were there and the other was at tea at the time I took the picture, that’s the room we had the talks in! Overall, it was a pretty cool event. I got to know some new people too and well… That’ll be for another post since THEIR blogs are interesting. Heh, heh, heh.
woot! nice post! cleverly done! 🙂 – i noticed the church but i guess my mind wasnt in an artistic mood to capture it.
cheers,
sham
Hi Sarah,
Thanks for attending Blogout09 and am glad you found my sharing useful. Don’t think we chatted at Blogout09, but I’m sure we’re all well connected virtually and any chatters can easily be carried out online.
Claudia
Hahah, well sham you were pretty busy capturing everything else!
And thanks for organizing too Claudia! Yesss, I’m sure we all can be online to chat and all. I joined TDM after that just to see if there’s any more events in the future too.
did i see ‘World Cafe Open Concention’?????
WORLD CAFE? At Hyatt???
WAHHH!
i meant convention…
Hahaha it’s the not same thing what you think Mizdivine, it just means people can talk about anything and it’s all there at 8Q, not the Hyatt. @_@
