This was my horoscope for the day. Commando Challenge was on Sunday and my slot with Tashigi was 1pm.
I have never done an obstacle course run before, well, except for Race the Dead. Actually before this, the only runs I’ve been to was The New Paper’s Big Walks and those were walks. So for 2013, I did 2 major runs with obstacles in the second half of the year. Yaaay.
Also, since I had pretty much fun even if RtD was mostly “Stupid, stupid sand!” and this Commando Challenge was pretty much “Stupid, stupid mud!”, I signed up for next year’s Run for Your Lives Asia which I hope will not be “Stupid, stupid concrete!”.
OH AND YEAH, my friend recommended me to check out the Running Guild’s calendar so I can totally get the early bird prices for events instead of finding out in the last minute.
I am tempted to go to NTUC’s Run350 and the Venus Run because they’re just 5km. There’s also the Marina Run which I see they have a fun run where you shoot each other with water pistols too. INTERESTING.
Mostly, I’m also thinking “OOOOH, it will make for nice video footage” because heck, if I do a lot of runs next year, I can also compile with my ‘first’ few runs which is pretty much RtD and CC and then at the end of 2014, I’ll have a short POV video of me running around Singapore.
Not sure if I’m into fitness or footage.
I don’t like to run so much but I do like scenery and obstacles if there are any.
Anywho, here’s some pictures from Commando Challenge! It was at Tanjong Pagar Railway Station. My route was just 4km and totally not the area I trekked through. Technically it was the opposite side from my adventure last time.
When we first entered the area, we went “Wow, okay” and there were so many expats there too and guys.
Like, it was man island. Fit Man Island.
Ours was the 4km Sprint the timing for the ones before us was the Elite at 12km so all the really fit guys and girls seemed to join that one and were finishing up. Also, there seemed to be a booth by DO XTREME SPORTS where they let you try out the archery tag stuff.
Wenger was one of the sponsors and had a booth too and they had a mini challenge where you can do the most number of pushups to win one of their watches.
Hahahahaha no.
I wouldn’t be able to get to whatever is their ‘most’ since my most is just 55 and that is with rests in between.
Anywhooo, after going to the bag check and making sure our numbers are on and stuff. We found out we had to queue up at the other end so we walked there in time for our slot.
Meanwhile, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were climbing that cargo net.
You know what? We were kinda freaked out since 4km with obstacles, what if we couldn’t make it?
And we were all “OH NO, that cargo net looks scary! The top is gonna be difficult!”.
Spoiler alert: It wasn’t. It was one of the easiest compared to the rest and it was pretty nice since we made it through easily in the end.
And then this is us going through “ice Milo” at the end. You guys can see most of the obstacles in the video below but well, it was REALLY HOT. I do hope for the next run the organizers will put more water points because hoooo my Glob, it was hot like that and ridiculous to not have enough water points.
Still, the ending with the ice Milo was sooo refreshing. It was pits of ice and vapors were rising like some fog.
And we finished. Yaaaay!
Or if you want to see how we climbed the first obstacle, you can also check it out here.
I got the t-shirt in the end so hurraaaay. And the medal which was pretty much the dog tags.
Also a banana.
I didn’t take a picture of the banana because I ate it.
The stuff were in plastic bags though and I did get the Zappy deodorant thingies and Garnier lotion. It would be nice if they had a bottle of water or whatever in the plastic bags though.
The ones we got are the one on the left! Woooh. The one on the right, I got it at the North Face store since it was the publicity tags.
I want to collect more medals like Pokemon badges.
It was only after the whole event, looking at the footage and whatever that we went “Wow, the heck did we do” since although it might be ‘easy’ to army guys or whatever, it still had that risk of falling off stuff and getting hurt majorly since it had a lack of safety things, so wooooow.
