I was invited to The Pinwheels, a content creators’ award show by MediaCorp / BloomrSG .
Spoiler alert: No, I was not nominated for anything.
Nonetheless I was curious on the winners and how the show for content creators would turn out and it was pretty fun? I’ve had my share of award shows but this one is much funner than the regular ones I’ve attended.
The dress code was smart casual with the theme yellow or/and black. So I totally expected people to turn up like they were a typical student designer or for a funeral.
Cause that’s what you usually get if you put ‘black’ in, everyone’s gonna just reach for the basics.
It was ok though, it didn’t look like a funeral for content although the aesthetics were still dystopian-like with the grunginess of the entry way? I do like the decorations.
There’s food. Which is already a plus point for me. Good job Orange Clove.
Separately there was an ice cream cart too and two other food vendors.
There’s drinks and there’s a Pinwheels mocktail that was lemonade based from a drinks caterer(?). They had machines and bar type people anyway.
Also, there’s a big huge ass drinks dispenser for water which was really nice since it was cold and we filled up while commenting as we watched the show. Who is we? Well, I brought my friend along too and we like to comment on local shows so why not.
The performers are all pretty good. I didn’t want to sit down cause I know if I did, you’ll probably see me in the B-roll as they screen the show this upcoming 8 November 2024, 8pm on their Mediacorp Entertainment Youtube channel.
Hazelle Teo and Joakim Gomez were the emcees for the night and they were pleasant and entertaining. In fact, lots of familiar faces at this show.
The fun stuff, besides the entertainment portion of the show, the actual awards and the food & drinks… They had stations! Fortune telling, caricatures, small arcade areas and a photobooth.
Yeah, do this more at awards shows, you guys! It was more interactive than regular ones and you could still go get food/drinks in between. And duh, create content about the night. Look, everyone’s probably going to post a picture or some videos about the show but I’m going to say hello readers of the future especially if you’re researching about Pinwheels in 2025.
This is how the awards event looked like in 2024 and it was good.
As websites tend to refresh themselves, I’ll let you know who the winners are in 2024 if you’re reading this in 2025:
Best collaboration video – Overkill Singapore
Best Drama Video – Wah! Banana
Best Lifestyle video – SeeMin Ng
Best Newcomer video – Tanglish Studios
Best Non-Fiction video – OGS (Old Grandfather Story)
Most Artistic video – KindnessSG
Most Innovative video – Just Keep Thinking
Most Social Good video – Mothership
Content of the Year – OGS
Content Creator of the Year – OGS
Honestly the video entries were great even though me and my friend were cheering for some of the other nominees in certain categories and I totally went woohoo when Just Keep Thinking won in most innovative.
What’s interesting to me is that the winners all had good productions (which is a given to be the top) but I can see the background in a sense that all of them had a big team or major support from sponsors or are content creators full time.
It’s going to be difficult to try get up there but I believe it is still possible to be nominated, maybe?
Anyway, The Pinwheels also gave us a goodie bag that had a bucket hat and keychain which looked pretty cool.
I have no idea what the pattern means guys.
WHAT DOES IT MEAN?
I mean, it’s cool but I don’t know what’s the pattern symbolizing cause it didn’t look like the Pinwheel designs on their collaterals. Is it an artistic pinwheel?
Tell me if you know what it is supposed to be cause the reverse pattern of it was on the bucket hat too.
If you get invited to The Pinwheels next time? Just go.
Also why am I putting 2NE1’s Fire here? It’s so you can know how the song goes because…
We had to sing it when the awards show finished and the speakers of the machine were disabled cause naturally they don’t want sound to affect the people on stage.
And since the show was finished, everyone else was going home too BUT NO. I CANNOT LEAVE HOME WITHOUT DANCING UPON A DDR machine! NO! That is ridiculous.
When an event puts a DDR machine there, one must dance upon it ok?
I had my friend sing the song cause I wasn’t familliar with it but eventually the staff who was in charge of the lock came by in time after the show ended so I could play it ONCE with music.
Anyway, I’ll edit this post IF I capture a glimpse of me on the official broadcast of the show on 8 November.
Please invite me back next year. Lol. If anything, I’ll try to submit a video I’m planning after seeing the certain quality or style that the nominees have in 2025.
