Comic Fiesta 2018 was held at Suria KLCC (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia) from 22 to 23 December. That meant we headed our way to the convention on Friday morning using Aeroline! It takes around 5 or 6 hours from Singapore but it’s so convenient since it drops us at Corus hotel which is just a short walk to our own chosen hotel above Suria KLCC.
Knowing people who keep saying they want to go to comic fiesta and then getting all surprised that wow, it’s big or crowded, well.
If you’re reading this then… THIS IS THE COMIC FIESTA SURVIVAL GUIDE FOR YOU.
You can get this box during the 12.12 Year End Sale sometime from 10-12 December. It could be one of those dates that this will be released within their time slots. They won’t say when but you can look out between those dates.
This box is costs $29 but it’s worth more than that.
You can actually check how much one of the items in the surprise box costs…
Why don’t you search how much a PRODA TWS Airplus costs?
I can tell you this is worth it if you ever wanted to buy airpods or replacement ones or a gift for someone, this is going to be waaay much cheaper especially with this surprise box.
It has its own charging case/dock. It takes 2 hours to charge from there or 45 minutes if you charge directly.
Click, click. So cool. There’s tiny “L” and “R” on the stem if you ever want to know which one goes in which ear.
And there’s the charging point.
Don’t worry if you don’t have a cable. Below the top layer of the packaging, there are instructions and a USB/lightning cable.
It was so easy to sync it to my phone too.
I tried it out and the audio quality is pretty good. So if you see me nod agreeingly, you probably won’t know if I’m listening to music via the airplus since it’s probably hidden under my tudung.
Oh! And a bonus of these surprise boxes, my cat gets to have her own box to sit in.
Go use my link here to just make sure you head on to the 12.12 page when the campaign is on!
It’s been at least 14 years since this movie premiered but it has so much feels.
Catch the screening on 2 DEC 2018, SUN on 2:00 PM at the NATIONAL MUSEUM OF SINGAPORE.
Sharifah Amani and Ng Choo Seong will be at this screening including Yasmin Ahmad’s sister, Orked.
There will be a Q&A session after the screening.
They will also be selling a limited number of merchandise and yeah this is the only time you can get it autographed by them. The only other way to get these books and stuff is to go to Ipoh and it’s not guaranteed that you can find all the cast and stuff again.
If you don’t know what’s the story of Sepet… well, please come watch. I don’t want to spoil you even after 14 years.
For something more contemporary, check out Crossroads: One Two Jaga
The director Nam Ron and his producer will be both introducing the film and doing a Q&A after the screening. This movie is pretty much telling the issues that we face now and I think it’s getting on Netflix too? At least from what I heard.
Axe Factor is Singapore’s first axe throwing range. Yeah, so if you were gonna google for axe throwing Singapore, this will be the only place with a range as of time of this post.
How was it?
Well, you can book your slot online on their website and pay a deposit of half of how many people are attending it.
Unfortunately for me but fortunately for those north/west siders, Axe Factor is at The Grandstand, 200 Turf Club Road unit #01-32A/B and 34A/B, Singapore 287994.
It’s the one facing outside, not the block with the food shops and supermarket.
ciNE65 is back again and the theme for Season IV is: SINGAPURA.
OK I AM GONNA GIVE YOU THE TL;DR version because the PRIZES for this year includes directing for a feature film (?!?!!!?!!?), cash prizes as usual, learning trip to an international film fest and getting a Panasonic 4K camcorder.
TWO CATEGORIES: Student or Open
Limit: 3 minutes for your short film
Participants can submit their competition entries via the ciNE65 website in this form from 9 November 2018 till 18 March 2019, 1200hrs.
No later than that.
SO WHAT THE HEEEEEEEEEEEEEECK? The prize of a chance to direct a feature film???????????????
Anyway, I’m going hmm, should I join the Open category this year? More details on their website if you’re interested but really. IT IS BACK.
And with the theme of Singapura, what would you do?
Here are some commissioned films for this round by award winning directors for some inspiration. There’s always commissioned films so you guys can see what is possible. Also, they all say please do something close to your heart so that they can feel the passion or story you want to show in your short films.
HERE WE GO.
Royston Tan’s 36 Ways to Say Good Morning. I liked that it has the oowoo bird. YOU KNOW which bird it is.
Sanif Olek’s Sama-sama. Also did you notice it’s in the same universe of his previous short film called The Usual?
Alvin Lee’s Pink IC which is based on a true story of a stateless man living in Singapore and now how he has his Pink IC after 50 years.
And Koh Chong Wu’s Afternoon at Bukit Ho Swee which… I don’t want to spoiler alert you but it’s a very interesting take.
ANYWAY, so! Who wants to try it out? I really encourage if you’re a media student to try it out and swipe/borrow equipment from school to do this.
For open category people, there’s also camera rental places in Singapore if you have no access to equipment in a school.
#RecycleMoreWasteLess is DBS’ movement to encourage Singaporeans to cut down on usage of single-use plastic. So that means trying not to use plastics that are single usage like those packet drinks, straws, your tapao packets at times too.
You can check their website more to know their 50 Days of Sporks where they have ambassadors going around the various hawker centres to let people know more about this initiative.
Yesss.
For every pledge received that is posted public to Facebook or Instagram, we will reward the pledger with a free, reusable Spork from DBS (see attached) and also a chance to win a 3D2N eco-friendly resort stay at Siloso Beach Resort every month from Aug to Oct.
Just take a pic of how you pledge to recycle more. Like bringing your own tupperware to put food in or your own cup.
Did you know most fancy type coffee places let you use your own cup instead of using theirs? Sometimes I bring my own cup to the coffeeshop aunty and they’re cool with it too.
