Adelaide Review Annual Short Fiction Competition is now open for submissions.

“The Adelaide Review, in association with the Creative Writing Program, is proud to announce the first Annual Short Fiction Competition. This annual competition aims to encourage the art of short fiction writing, to set new standards in contemporary short fiction and to be one of Australia’s most prestigious writing awards. The competition features an international judging panel consisting of prize-winning Australian author and Chair of the Creative Writing Program, Brian Castro, Noel Laureate J.M. Coetzee and Jamaican poet and short story writer Oliver Senior.”

The Adelaide Review short fiction competition is open to writers from anywhere around the world, as long as the original text is written in English, has not previously been published and is a maximum of 2,500 words. Cathy Cassidy appearance in Singapore!

Got this from Borders. Author appearance on 16th May, Saturday at 2.30pm. The competition that you can win a breakfast with Cathy Cassidy is here. Entries close on 13 May 2009 so the page will be probably down after then.

The last time there was an author appearance at Borders, lots of fans queued up and all. So be sure to get there early to have a good spot in the line if she’s doing autographs!

48 Hour Film Project: Singapore 2009

For those who don’t know about the 48 Hour Film Project, it’s a competition that is held all over the world and that you have to complete a short film of 4 to 7 minutes (excluding credits) within 48 hours. This is the second year Singapore is having it.

Oh and you have to put in the 3 required items that is needed in the story and you don’t know what genre you’ll get until the day itself. What are the 3 items needed?

Prop: Scissors

Character: Amy/Andy Yeo, a journalist

Dialogue: Is it supposed to look like that?

And as for my team, we got a mockumentary. How amusing, yes?

Meanwhile, my brothers also joined the competition. I’ve taken a look at their entry and… I seriously want to see the faces of the audience when it is being screened. The competitors were required to be at TISCH Asia at least by 7pm, Friday, 1st May 2009.

Singapore Writers Festival 2009!

Look! The Singapore Writers Festival’s website is now up! You can now download the forms, read the rules and application form for the Golden Point Award 2009.

GPA Summary:

  • From 10 March to 29 May
  • $16 application fee
  • Passport photo of yourself
  • 100 word bio of yourself in English
  • 4 copies of your manuscript
  • And the application form ( Of course.)

You can write it in English/Malay/Chinese/Tamil in either poetry or a short story form. A minimum of 5 poems with a max of 8 and for short story, it’s 5000 words max.

Obviously it must be original, unpublished and oh here’s the thing, you can’t enter this competition if you’re a published writer! Just so you know, more fine details, just look at their forms.
