A Lot Less Funny

Ok the papers on the 3rd.

TIME TO CHANNEL MY INNER SUMIKO TAN. If you don’t read the Straits Times, I don’t blame you. I’m sure you have other things to do like instagram your food or tweet something. Me too, my friends. Me too.

The only time I read the Straits Times is when I go straight to the Life! Section and scan the pages to see if I’m in it.

OHO I LIE.

Ok, maybe not.

But I do check the comics section first and LO AND BEHOLD, the comics section is now… JUST TWO STRIPS? WHAT THE BANANAYS IS THAT? No. No. Did I drop a page and did my cat eat it? Of course not, that’s silly. My cat wouldn’t eat the paper. It is not that attractive to consume. Was it my imagination that this comic section was now less of a section and more of random COPY PASTA ON A PAGE?

GASSSSSP.

I noticed this phenomenon when they started last Sunday or so when the comics strips were reduced to one page instead of three. Ok. Ok. That’s alright… I think? Maybe the papers had something more important to write about in the Life! section. At least the local strip by Miel was there.

The thing is, I wasn’t the only one who noticed this new thing ST was trying out.

So Unnatural!

Unnatural - Title card

No adventures around Singapore because, ok. I did have some but I wanted to write more about this series… UNNATURAL! You can actually watch it on XinMSN. Thank goodness for episode recaps for local shows on it cause I have no idea who else will do it if you don’t record them yourselves.

Frankly, I have watched season 1 and 2. Not that I wanted to but mostly it’s when I was eating food and it happened to be on and I switched channels because the first two seasons were SO painful. In a sense that they were actual reenactments of what had truly happened. Some of the cases had happened a few weeks before and were in the newspapers.

Unnatural was really about freak accidents and unnatural deaths that happened and you couldn’t help the victims at all. It was doubly painful because they managed to get the relatives and interviewed them. Just really heartbreaking.

NOW, I can watch Unnatural because it’s just… Well, if you haven’t noticed me tuning in every episode and telling my friends online about it, WELL, you just need to watch it now.

It’s totally the opposite of the first two seasons because it’s so unbelievable, it’s unnatural.

Darren Lim is the host!

Each episode has Darren Lim as the host introducing the ‘story’ of each episode. Sometimes he’s involved in being ‘examples’ to show what he is talking about.

The format of Unnatural is pretty easy, you have either one or two stories per episode and in between it you have interviews with professionals like doctors, psychiatrists or whatever professional sports person that goes with it.

And that’s when you start to bring popcorn or whatever snack you want to eat as you watch the show.

The Singing Bone

Hello Kitty Fairy Tales

So if you haven’t known, from the various news reports and whatnot, McDonalds in Singapore had Hello Kitty Fairy Tale dolls if you purchase it with a value meal or something. The line up is as such, the witch from the Wizard of Oz, the Ugly Duckling, the lion from Wizard of Oz, the Singing Bone, the Frog Prince and Red Riding Hood.

As for the witch, she was exclusive for deliveries only so you could get her if you called McD’s delivery. My friend in Norway commented that she didn’t really look like the witch from Oz but that she was more like a McDonald’s staff who was a witch? Very Kiki’s Delivery Service.

For the rest, we know their stories pretty much.

Except for the Singing Bone.

That’s the black Hello Kitty. I have no idea why it is in the line up, the rest generally have happy endings but before we get to that…

A bid on it!

This particular kitty caused a near riot at some McDonald’s branches, some have called that the government should step in just because they couldn’t get one. Others blamed the staff for not having more.

I don’t know man, I thought the staff actually COOKED and sold food, not manufacture the cats.

And some have bid for this kitty till $126,000.

The bidders!

I don’t know if they are legit bidders but at least 28 accounts bid for it. If they are because if you don’t, your account gets banned and such which from what I see these are NEW accounts without reviews, they might just heck it.

If it was real, the details said cash on delivery. I don’t know how you’re stuffing $126,000 in briefcases or bags and going to the nearest MRT station for a meet up.

With all these ridiculous happenings, do these people know the story?

Game: Rojak Institute

This is Rojak Institute

There was a time in 2007 where I made a game with a bunch of ladies (plus one guy who helped out!) called Rojak Institute. We premiered it at Cosfest (Singapore) and Comic Fiesta (Malaysia) in 2007 but we made the game in the one year before that. Or technically less than a year.

So it started around in mid 2006 that Kei grabbed a bunch of us writers, illustrators and programmers to do a visual novel game. Mind you, we were either working/interning/schooling. Mostly in school.

Rojak Institute had original art, story and heck MUSIC.

You can download the game for free here: Rojak Institute Episode 1 (29.3MB)

It is originally made in flash and was sold at our conventions in CD-Rs with printed bookmarks so it auto ran when you placed it in your computer.

To start, since this is a download, click opening.exe. If you’re on a Mac, click opening.swf.

Buy bye Deviant Art Store!

Extended Edition

A lanyard!

The last day of the Deviant Art store is the 28th May 2013. I only knew it today and decided to buy something before it closed down. The digital artist bag is so nice and well, I would have gotten it but I didn’t ‘need’ it when I had my other normal bags.

ALAS, too late anyway since it has sold out! There’s the nomad bag left and while it is beautiful, le sigh. I don’t ‘need’ it either since I just got myself a (very cheap) skateboard bag via ebay.

I wouldn’t say no to the bags though, if it were available to me.

Singapore’s Not Boring… You Are… OK LOR, NOW WHAT?

Extended Edition

GUYYYYYYYYYYYYYS. I just had tea. Most of you who are my regular readers and people who talk to me know how it is with me + tea. The normal teh tarik!

ANYWAY. So I read the whole “Singapore’s Not Boring, You Are” thingy rebuttal to that other “Singapore’s Boring” thing which was written over 3 years ago. I think the person who wrote that would be more amazed that people are starting to comment NOW than back then.

Cause I always go “WOAAAH DUDE, WHO ARE YOU? HOW DID YOU SEARCH MY THINGS? I WROTE THIS X YEARS AGO and have an UPDATED VERSION OF THIS NOW”.

I lie.

You guys don’t even comment that often for my other posts except for my ukulele guides, ABLOO BLOO BLOO.
