24 Hours Comics Day! The briefing…

Singapore’s 24 Hours Comics Day will be held this coming Saturday, 20 October 2012 at Bukit Merah Library. More info on registry, it is on the SG 24 Hour Comics website. If you ever wanted to try 24 hour comics day, you should register and go do it with the other artists!

It’s like the comics equivalent of Nanowrimo only you have to do a comic.

In 24 Hours.

Duh.

WELL, the atmosphere is fun and everyone else will be rushing to complete their stories too. The library has rented a lot of tables just for this event and it’ll be like an overnight camp with no less games and more drawing!

The Southern Ridges!

We have finally gone to the Southern Ridges after so long! Weather and other activities thwarted us whenever we wanted to do this. Our cast of adventurers feature: Mintea and Dude, Joelyn, Max and Raven.

Our trail:  From Kent Ridge Park to Marang Trail

Which we had planned to go via: Canopy Walk > Floral Walk > Alexandra Arch > Forest Walk > Hilltop Walk > Henderson Waves > Faber Walk > Marang Trail

You can check out the trails from the NParks website here too. If you want to try out the trails, really check the website out first so you know which path to take.

Game2Read and the Cat’s Purrzaar

The utterly unimaginative title of this post is pretty much… Well, Game2Read was a quiet affair. It was held at the airy space, The Plaza at the central National Library. It did mean a lot of space to walk around though.

And so the previous conventions…

For a report on STGCC 2012, I’ve written it here on SGCafe. It’s Japanese centric so here’s just a few other memorable notes. For Andy Diggle’s panel, he says the question is not “How do I get in comic companies but how to get noticed instead”. It’s paraphrasing here and comic writing is more about cutting things out than putting it in since there’s limited pages or text you can have in a comic.

A good exercise is to start writing a story for 20 pages then cut the same story to 10 and then cut it to 5 and then see if you can cut it to 1 page.

So woaaaaaah.

A summary: STGCC was cool and I hope it’ll be even better in 2013 and really. Fix their ticketing system.

Read more on the other panels and stuff from Here Be Geeks!

And then, there was The Games Expo at the Singapore Expo Hall 5 last weekend.

The STGCC 2012 Survival Guide!

This year, the Singapore Toy, Games & Comics Convention will be held at Marina Bay Sands! It’s a whole different game from last year when it was at Suntec. The Sands Expo & Convention Centre will be quite a new place for a lot of us visiting. I’ve not much pictures but here’s a written guide for you.

GETTING THERE:

1) Via MRT: Drop at Bayfront MRT and just follow the exit signs towards the convention centre

2) Buses are: 97/97E, 106, 133, 502/502A, 518/518A, NR1 (Available on Fridays, Saturdays and eve of public holidays), and NR6 (Available on Fridays, Saturdays and eve of public holidays). When you’re getting on the bridge and going up towards MBS, you’ll press the bell when you’re about to reach the Bayfront MRT station.

You will WALK a lot. Either way, the bus stops and station will be at opposite ends of Marina Bay Sands. The convention halls are in the “middle”. Ok, its not THAT much walking but just be prepared to go up/down the escalators to get to the floor with the convention halls. Or just follow people in costumes.

Selamat Hari Raya Puasa for 2012

Or in other parts of the world, Eid Mubarak works too.

For those who thought the Geylang bazaar was quiet, well, it wasn’t. At least not for the 17th since it would have closed on the 18th. Slashed prices. Kueh on sale. Everything had to go.

This year’s trend for outfits is Arabian style. Plus stalls doing henna designs on your hands and eyebrow threading besides the usual stalls of food, decorations and clothes.

The most unlikely to be at the bazaar appearance was…

Hello from Sarah and hello from SG

Happy National Day to you lot! Instead of posting anything, since it was a holiday and all… Have you checked Hello from SG?

One Twitter account. A different person living in Singapore a week, every week.

That’s their tagline.

Ironically, at the moment of this post, their tumblr’s about page still doesn’t state the twitter account name except for Sweden’s. It’s mostly there on the usual page s where the people introduce themselves though!

The Dark Knight Rises… With Domino’s Pizza

This post is brought to you by Domino’s Pizza and Omy.sg!

Like Catwoman, I was trapped in Gotham. Instead of Gotham, it was Vivocity since I missed the last train at Harbourfront. How did I end up there even?

I got to watch The Dark Knight Rises by getting a ticket by Omy in a private theatre just reserved by Domino’s. The movie ended at midnight since it was that long.

If you’re a fan of Domino’s, you should like their Facebook page. You might win some tickets to their next movie outing for their special customers. And wow, they have quite a lot of special customers who love to buy their pizzas.

It’s cool to know that they do keep a list of special customers and give out goodies or tickets to them besides for fans who like their page.

Message in a Bottle

I got a Gardens by the Bay stamp and sent a letter to myself so I could get the post mark. Yes, the stamp is pretty limited and you can see it takes half the length of the envelope.

Since I was sending said letter to myself, I figured it should open it in 2015.

And then I checked my own previous message to myself that I sent in 2002 since I forgot when I was supposed to open it.

16 May 2012.

Well ok.
