The World’s Loneliest Bookstore

The World’s Loneliest Bookstore by BooksActually in collaboration with D/SINI is held until 19 August 2018.

So you guys reading this still have time to visit it this coming weekend!

The plot of this is:

A freak solar flare on a magnitude nobody has experienced before has wrecked the Earth’s natural environment, causing volcanic eruptions and devastating oceanic activity. Infrastructure all around the world collapsed as a result and many lost their lives to the freak disaster. The world’s population was somehow reduced to its bare minimum following the end of the devastation. Only 4,169 people remain around the globe, just enough to repopulate Earth.

Following the disaster, only one woman remains in Singapore. With the 20 books she has scavenged, she has decided to set up what probably is the last remaining bookstore on earth. The rest of the bookstore is outfitted with other scavenged bits: a few paintings, an old television, a spare radio that is constantly trying to reach somebody else out there, and other bits and bobs. Everyday she waits for someone, anyone, to reach her bookstore while she finds solace in what she has. Thus begins The World’s Loneliest Bookstore.

So head on to block 7 of Gillman Barracks, 7 Lock Road, Singapore 108935. It opens from 11am to 7pm daily until the 19th of August.

I went there on national day because that was finally an open day for me to check it out.

The most “Huh, I didn’t think that would happen but I guess it’s likely” is a karaoke booth. I don’t know if it is meant to be there but it should be? But it really gives that whole if it’s a post apocalyptic world, I guess a karaoke booth would be entertainment to just sing in.

You can look around an experience yourself and even take a key from a tray.

So far that I know this is a real block and it faces towards east coast beach. If at the end of the world and you could choose pretty much any house in Singapore since there’s no one else, I would try to choose this one.

There are other addresses which are technically near my current home too.

And cats.

There’s so many cats around.

Which makes sense since we have so many community cats about.

Come sit with them.

Also did I buy anything from the world’s loneliest bookstore?

I got Rachel Heng’s Suicide Club.

Head on to Gillman Barracks before it all ends for this pretty surreal and chill experience. Also since you’re there, you probably can take influenza styled photos at the pink pineapple nearby.

Ps. Of course I tried the karaoke booth.

Pps. I went to BooksActually at Tiong Bahru to get that brick since it was an open day for me so I explored. This is part of their shophouse fund. You can get one too.

Journaling Festival 2018 at Millenia Walk!

The Journaling Festival by Cityluxe at Millenia Walk ends on 5 August. You can check out the various activities like MT Tape aka washi tape badge making, rubber stamp “trading” and workshops on bullet journaling at their programme on their website.

It’s a “small” festival but packed with very evil items to those who like writing, journaling, sketchbooking etc because OH MY GOODNESS.

The stationery and the tapes and ink and whatnot.

The table at the bottom right is where the presentation or trading of rubber stamping and other workshops are happening there’s also some MT Tape stuff happening on the top left corner too.

Geylang Hari Raya Bazaar 2018!

It is said that it is least crowded on Sundays for the bazaars so I headed down to Geylang to check it out if it’s true. Since people need to work the next day, I guess?

So far, yeah! The crowd isn’t too scary but of course the food areas are jam packed but not too scary.

This year Wisma Geylang Serai opened and there are performances happening on stage on weekends during this Ramadan. You can check out their facebook here.

DBS Marina Regatta 2018 !

The day I went had ridiculous weather, sunny and then rain and back to sun again. Anyway the DBS Marina Regatta is back! And it’s held at the Promontory from around 8am to 11pm, since you’re reading this the last weekend to catch it is this 2 and 3 June!

Don’t carry too many things because there is a bag check at the entrance for the safety of all. After that, you’re through!

It starts really early because you can join the workouts by the bay in the Play Dome, it’s near the left side of the stage if you are facing it.

BUT YEAH FREE WORKOUTS!

All you have to do is bring your own mat and wear your exercise stuff, more info on the various workout schedules is on the DBS Marina Regatta website.

Meanwhile, do pick up the bay passport when you’re there.

You have to complete various actions around the area and you might win a Porsche Design HUAWEI Mate 10, Scoot flight tickets to Berlin, Maldive and Kuching or any other prizes!

It starts with Sew!

I signed up for Fashion Sewing 101 at Fashion Maker Space . If you guys are confused where it is, it’s on the second floor, next to 7-11 at 258A South Bridge Road.

Very near to Chinatown MRT station.

Alright, why Fashion Sewing 101? Because I figured I should start from the very basics even though I have done cosplays and whatnot like woah. Those are like… hack and dash. It works cause it works but this time I want to learn properly.

So Fashion Sewing 101 it is!

I was early so I got to choose my own seat. I got a little pack of informative stuff of where to buy fabric and haberdashery plus a diagram of sewing machine parts plus a piece of fabric to practice on.

This was totally for a beginner but I did learn things! Such as tension and what the zig zag stuff means and how to get the curves in stitching you want etc.

On my right was also samples of the various workshops/classes they hold.

It’s a fairly spacious space and there was another class going on, on the other side too.

This is me “tracing” the lines of what to do. You can see me experimenting after the instructor (Isabelle) told us how to use the different settings and what each one is needed for different materials.

I was legitly like “AaAAaaAAHhh?” but quietly in my mind.

Because I could technically do embroidery with my machine or even do finer sewing with the machine I have at home?!

In any case, it was a pleasant introduction to sewing whether if you are truly a super beginner or someone who needs brushing up in sewing.

I want to go to Fashion Sewing 102 now… Ah…

You can check out their Facebook here or their website and instagram.

Eat like a Champ at Mahota!

On the road to DBS Marina Regatta 2018, one must eat like a champion to be a CHAMPION!!!!

Ok, ok. There was a sharing session by May Schooling (Joseph Schooling’s mother) on how she feeds her son and Benson the chef at Mahota on healthier cooking.

May Schooling told us for breakfast pretty much she makes fruit smoothies for her son. I thought that that was pretty simple, I could do that. Just choose my fruits, freeze in portions like what she does and then just blender it together with Greek yogurt and milk.

And then especially since he does train a lot, cheese toasties help for him since he does need carb replacement for energy so he wouldn’t “lose muscle”.

There’s parmesan for the umami melted in this toasty too but it is a simple enough recipe.

It’s Lazada’s 6th Birthday!

It’s Lazada’s 6th Birthday and they have a present for you!

Their birthday festival sale starts on 24 April until 26 April 2018.

Ok, what’s the details? Since it’s their birthday, there’s going to be discounts of up to 90% off, more than 600 flash deals and… up to $120 vouchers?!

In the previous birthday deals, I can’t remember they had that!

OOOH AND there’s SURPRISE BOXES again! It’ll cost $29 but it’s worth around $100.

And ok, this is the year of huat aka 2018 so we might want to look nicer so there’s only 4 exclusive premium beauty boxes worth $100 but going at $50.

It’s probably some atas brand and all.

I don’t know but what I can tell you is their gaming section surprise box!!

Here’s what I got as a preview for the celebration, the Leapfrog Surprise Box!

Wheeeee!

So what’s in it for 2018?

FeedMenang2 – In which we went to Penang to eat

A month or so ago we went to Penang to just eat.

REALLY WE DID.

Hence why our hashtag was a pun on FeedMenang2. I didn’t go to the first trip, just the second.

Anyway, our hotel was the Cititel Penang and it was the most convenient hotel to stay at since we mostly walked around to get to the food places.

Tips if you want to go for a weekender in Penang, install Grab. We used that to get from the airport to our hotel. It’s around 20-30 minutes journey from the airport to Cititel. After that it was walking for food for us.

BAM. Char kway teow from Bee Hwa Cafe (10 Lebuh Dickens, George Town, Penang Island). It is so good and that place also has good curry mee too. FYI, the food stuff in this post is Halal, so yeah.

We drank pat poh which is something like cincau but… DIFFERENT? It’s sweet, nice and cold in the heat of Penang.

Making cheese at Citizen Farm!

On an early Saturday morning I ventured all the way to 60 Jalan Penjara to visit the Citizen Farm. (Facebook is at Citizen Farm in case you want updates from them!)

There’s no penjara (jail) that I know of, just a nice edible garden farm of sorts.

My main reason was to attend the cheese making workshop by Annisa of Milky Whey Cheese who came all the way from Kuala Lumpur! (You can check out her instagram too at @milkywheycheese.)

Also that’s a chicken who was eating the mint on the other side before one of the Citizen Farm people shooed it away since his food was already in a tray.

Ohhhh my goodness. I learned how to make mozzarella cheese. The “instant” kind (aka took at least an hour) while Annisa brought some curds she had made in KL where it would take maybe 6-12 hours I think?? Anyway, since we only had 3 hours of the workshop, ours was a ‘fast mozzarella’ type.
