In which I finally went to Pesta Ubin

Pesta Ubin 2017 was on 15 and 16 July and I wanted to go to it at least once since I kept putting it off for the previous years.

This year would be the year I woke up and actually headed there for the festival.

To head to Pulau Ubin, I went to Changi Point Ferry Terminal nearby Changi Village and pretty much got my money ready. It’s $3 per trip (from the time of my post) to get there so please have exact change.

If you guys are wanting to have an Ubin adventure, don’t forget to keep some cash since there’s no ATMs on the island (that I know of). And no, you don’t need a passport to get to Ubin. You just need 12 people to fill up the boat or if you’re impatient, pay the captain $36 all by yourself.

Once I reached there, I finally got to try the famous Ubin lontong. It’s just to the left of the boardwalk after you’ve reached Ubin.

I call this a success since I reached there around 10am and yes, it is so rich (lemak) and the sambal was hot (pedas) but not overwhelming. Paired with just teh, this was a good start of my Ubin adventure.

I wanted to geocache but realized I totally needed gloves for some of the places and there were too many people around so I hecked that and went on with the festivities for the day instead.

This is Home Truly at Cine65

I was invited to the media briefing of ciNE65 IV at Objectifs where I learned more about this season of competitors and the winning films.

Of course I got to know who they were before the actual event half an hour later but shhh. Shhh.

It was informative because the judges were able to tell the media what went through for this year’s entries since the actual awards ceremony would celebrate the participants more.

That’s Colonel Joseph Tan, the director of Nexus by the way. (His favourite out of all the entries is Ang Ku Kueh.)

He stated the students category this year blew him away.

Jeremy Sing of SINdie also noted that with the rise of technology, there had been very interesting shots although a bit unnecessary? He recalled a scene where the shot began in the kitchen and it went out of it and then pulled out to the HDB flat.

I guess that’s pretty interesting but so extra but hey if you got access to a drone, USE IT RIGHT? Hahahah.

Other judges like Sanif Olek preferred the messaging for this year as it is more subtle compared to the first time Cine65 was out. The stories had heart. For judge, N.Mohamed Yahssir, he found that it brought him back memories of Singapore as many of the short films try to bring the nostalgic feel in their stories.

RPG Day at Cairnhill CC

It was the first RPG Day I attended on the 17th of June this year. Not sure if it was the first RPG Day in Singapore though but it was held at Cairnhill CC which was quite convenient since it was so close to Newton MRT. Entry was free and I knew there were going to be free games to play or try out and tourneys.

Aircon! So good, it was so hot outside. And hey everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves at the tables. The games available were various D&D campaigns, Star Wars minis and a few card games.

Geylang Ramadan Bazaar 2017

Mostly, I keep going to the Geylang bazaar is to just hope and find that one shop ever since it closed years ago. Anatolia. I miss it and before it closed shop at Far East Plaza, they used to have a stall at the bazaar. Le sigh. If you know any of the staff or the boss, tell them that I miss their salads and the lahmacun and my friends miss the pide and kebabs too.

Anyway, since then I keep going to it just to have a glimpse, to see if I will see them return.

For now, this post is for those friends who aren’t in Singapore and want to see how the bazaar is like now.

Warning. Lots of food pictures.

A Smashing Time at The Fragment Room

So I went to The Fragment Room. If you ever played Overwatch with me, you’d know I like smashing things in the waiting room because the sound of breaking glass is fun.

And here I could do it in a safe environment and ok, I pretty much went there cause I wanted cool shots of me breaking stuff in slow motion.

GUESS WHAT, MISSION SUCCESS thanks to Nick cause he wanted to test out his phone and I wanted to also learn which camera is good for doing those shots.

Booking’s available online at their website. There’s an additional cost of $15 for clean up if you decide to bring your own stuff.

I went when they had been only opened for 8 days and wow, was it busy.

FCBD at GnB , Yellow Princess and Doujima

6 May 2017 was the first Free Comic Book Day that GnB had at their new premises at Kitchener Complex.

No more queuing up in the heat but it was so much slower than before since it was in air con and… WHY ARE PEOPLE BROWSING AT THE COUNTER?

We have Howard giving up mini prizes to quiz questions while we waited in line.

I visited Tanglin

15 March 2017 was the first fan meet of Tanglin the series. I was invited to come and yes of course I did want to see the set!

We got a tour of the facilities in Infinite Studios where the whole set for the Tongs, Lims and Rahmans plus the cafe was at.

The entrance led us to the kitchen where we met Belle (?) the actual chef for the show and also the writers. We traversed through a small corridor where it led to various rooms for the cast to change or rest and the wardrobe.

After that we went on set!

Finally I could see the small details of the show. You can just watch Tanglin on tv or Toggle if you want to see how it looks like usually.
